Due to a broken camera and a Chinese holiday, I split a two week trip right down the middle. The first was by train to Guilin, where I was accompanied by Dom, a jazz musician whom I'd met on the ten hour journey. A couple days in the city and my extended invitation to travel north, had us relaxing in the Longsheng Country villages tasting a variety of local cuisines, exploring corn and chili laden villages and topping numerous rice terraces. All this before the mad dash, which ensued taking us back to Guilin, in an attempt to get out before the holiday madness hit.
With my camera fixed and the rush of the holiday well over the second part of my trip once again brought me back to Guilin, though this time in the South starting in Yangshuo carrying onwards to Xingping, a small town nestled along side the Li River. Laozhai Hill provided a big window for the curtain of karst limestone peaks following the river as well as one of the few hikes available in the area.
